Bioeconomics is the discipline originating from the synthesis of biology and economics. It is an attempt to bridge, through the concept of holism and interdisciplinary methodology, the empirical culture of biology and the literary culture of economics and thus finish with what C.P. Snow has called “ the two cultures.”

Bioeconomics is a paradigmatic shift in the development of the economy-environment disciplines such as natural resource economics, environmental economics and ecological economics.
The paradigm shift is really an endeavour to make the invisible visible: in the case of bioeconomics the aim is to make visible all the weaknesses of the socioeconomic activity based on the neoclassical theory and the competitive capitalist ideology.

Practical Definition:

Bioeconomics is the science determining the socioeconomic activity threshold for which a biological system can be effectively and efficiently utilised without destroying the conditions for its regeneration and therefore its sustainability. In other words Bioeconomics advocates an integrated system: example:
Shrimps live in mangroves and eat algae. Also, grow there flowering plants of various types whose flowers are the source of nourishment for honey bees : destroying the mangroves is equivalent to destroying a bioeconomic system, that is destroying anintegrated system.
Also Bioeconomics is in favour of creating communities of producers, agriculturist and cooperatives that could participate in integrated activities of production and distribution.
The bioeconomic activity has as its model the economic activity of nature; that isnature’s economy and promotes imitating and mimicking the biological processes that function to perfection in nature. In reality bioeconomic examples abound in nature; such biological processes as evolution, coevolution and cooperation; natural selection, conservation; regeneration and recycling and many others are all bioeconomic;
that is, although they might have originally developed only as biological but through time they have attained economic purpose and importance too .

In short, Bioeconomics is not institutional economics based on conformity, rules and regulations forming the essence of the market . Bioeconomics is about change and innovation based on revolutionary ideas in a dynamic and globalised world: New Institutional Economics. In other words Bioeconomics in addition to being the science of supply, demand and prices is also the science of accounting for the biological, economic, social, environmental and ethical realities of resource depletion, wealth inequality, social inequity, environmental contamination and ethical misconduct.

DANIEL SUELO

…there’s an obvious beauty in the simplicity of subsistence. It’s an un-American notion these days. We don’t revere our ascetics, and we dismiss the idea that money could be some kind of consensual delusion. For most of us, it’s as real as the next house payment. Suelo doesn’t take public assistance or use food stamps, but he does survive in part on our reality, the discarded surfeit of the money system that he denounces—a system, as it happens, that recently looked like it was headed for the cliff.

The motivation is looking for itself. In those sensations themselves is
something very powerful and amazing. However, in order to see this, a
shift has to happen in which the drive becomes driven to understand the
sensations of that drive itself rather than looking to future sensations for
satisfaction. This is a completely unintuitive thing to do, and this is one
reason why meditation practices can seem so awkward sometimes.
However, the fact that the drive or the goal contains its own solution is
the reason why there is such relentless emphasis on being present to
what is happening now. If we can get this drive to just chill on its future
fixation and simply understand itself, insight is close at hand.

COURAGE

20/07/2009

Love, by the way, is not all hugs and backrubs. Primarily, I think, love is a prank. To borrow a theme I’m developing in my third novel: Love is a prank played on the ego by the spirit to teach the ego the one thing that it does not want to learn. In my own life, I’ve been scalded by love, and I’ve even been so tough boots as to believe that I needed to protect my heart. But as a result of my accidental contemplation of courage, I realized — or I remembered — that the heart is made of love, and love is indestructible, and only the cowardice of ego would presume that it requires protection. Actually, love is the only force capable of overcoming the ego, and so the ego would naturally like to avoid this prank, never having to learn to give up control. Courage is simply allowing this vulnerability, embracing the uncertainty, accepting that we may be hurt, yes, that it won’t always be easy, and that not only can we take it, but that we actually have no idea how much we can take. In this “Age of Uncertainty,” courage necessarily means being true to one’s heart, stepping towards a future uncertain rather than securing oneself to a predictable past. Courage is without caution, it is passion, it is a fleeing from security and into synchronicity. A flower growing through a crack in a rock, courage abandons the familiar and secure shell which protects us — and limits us — and dares us to emerge, to grow, and to trust that life will nurture us despite its challenges.

This expansion of consciousness is necessarily the reduction of ego, and is there anything more expansive than the feeling of love? It is not uncommon for lovers to recount the synchronicities of their meeting, to recognize a strangely inevitable magic in their rendezvous, and such magic is only the beginning, a dim glimmer of a spectacular sunrise, patient as we find our courage, tender as we surrender, daring us to give, to forgive, to reside more fully in our heart, to remember that we are never alone, and ultimately to realize that we are nothing if we are not servants to one another. It is love that erodes our ramparts, that relieves us of our armor, that tames the teeth protecting our trauma, and it is love that will heal us all the moment we have the courage to face the magic.

This is what I believe more than anything, and this is what gives me hope.

May you be ever overwhelmed by how many people you love.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla.– In response to rumors circulating the internet on sites such as FoxNews.com, FastCompany.com and CNET News about a “flesh eating” robot project, Cyclone Power Technologies Inc.(Pink Sheets:CYPW) and Robotic Technology Inc. (RTI) would like to set the record straight: This robot is strictly vegetarian.

On July 7, Cyclone announced that it had completed the first stage of development for a beta biomass engine system used to power RTI’s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR™), a Phase II SBIR project sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Defense Sciences Office. RTI’s EATR is an autonomous robotic platform able to perform long-range, long-endurance missions without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling.

RTI’s patent pending robotic system will be able to find, ingest and extract energy from biomass in the environment. Despite the far-reaching reports that this includes “human bodies,” the public can be assured that the engine Cyclone has developed to power the EATR runs on fuel no scarier than twigs, grass clippings and wood chips – small, plant-based items for which RTI’s robotic technology is designed to forage. Desecration of the dead is a war crime under Article 15 of the Geneva Conventions, and is certainly not something sanctioned by DARPA, Cyclone or RTI.

“We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” stated Harry Schoell, Cyclone’s CEO. “We are focused on demonstrating that our engines can create usable, green power from plentiful, renewable plant matter. The commercial applications alone for this earth-friendly energy solution are enormous.” (emphasis in the original)
